What this is, exactly
It's a cleanout, not a move. Your movers take what you're keeping to the new place. Everything left standing in the old house — furniture that won't fit, the contents of a garage, thirty years of a basement — comes out on this job, and the house is left swept.
That distinction is on this page on purpose. The service used to be called "Downsizing & Senior Moves," which implied a moving service, and Black Diamond doesn't run one. Better to say so here than to have someone find out on the day.
The pace is the service
Nobody gets rushed through deciding what to keep. Sorting can happen over several visits, with family there or not, whichever is easier. Set aside what's staying and it doesn't get touched.
What goes includes the parts of a house that were never going to fit in a box anyway: the workbench somebody built in place, the wall of garage shelving, the shed, the deck that's been a fall risk for two years. That's the part a moving company won't do and a hauling company can't.
The house afterward
If the family home is being sold — and it usually is — it comes out of this empty, swept, and ready to photograph. Anything structural that would land on an inspection report can come out on the same job instead of turning into a repair credit at closing.
