  • We Pull the Permit

Salt Lake requires a permit to take out a structural wall, and only a licensed contractor can pull one. A junk removal company can’t — so they turn the job down, or they do it without one and don’t mention it. Vince pulls the permit.

That’s the hardest test in this trade, and it’s the reason to trust the rest of the list too. The person clearing your garage or your mother’s house is a framer with 27 years in the trades who knows what’s holding the house up — so from a full trailer to a bearing wall, it’s one company, one date, and no gap in the middle where the job stalls.

Utah GC License #14181665-5501. 27 years in the trades. Framer by trade.

The permit gets pulled before the wall comes down.

Why him

Five facts, no adjectives.

#14181665-5501Licensed

Utah general contractor

A state contractor license, not a business registration. It's what makes it legal to take out a structural wall — and it's why the demolition permit gets pulled here and can't be, by a hauling company.

$2MInsured and bonded

liability · $55K bond

Two million aggregate, one million per occurrence, plus a $55,000 bond. If you're an executor or an agent who needs a certificate for a file, that's the number you need.

27Experience

years in the trades · company founded 2024

Two different figures and both are true. Vince has 27 years in the trades, framing and contracting. Black Diamond is the company he started after moving to Utah two years ago. They're stated separately because the second one is public record.

1Owner-operated

person on every job

The licensed contractor who quotes your job is the one who pulls the permit and stands in the property while it happens. Nothing gets handed down a chain. Eleven years US Navy, service-connected disabled veteran.

Published pricing

No “call for a quote.”

Junk removal is priced by volume and the rate is on the site. Demolition is quoted after Vince walks it, because the honest number depends on what's inside the wall.

Full trailer

$695

What that holds

  • A two-car garage cleared to the walls
  • The contents of a one-bedroom apartment
  • A 12×16 deck, framing and boards
  • A full basement storage room, floor to ceiling

Most whole-room and whole-garage jobs land here.

Half trailer

$395

What that holds

  • One room emptied out
  • A single-car garage bay
  • A small shed, taken down and loaded
  • A furniture-and-appliance clear-out

The common size for a single-room or single-item job.

Per item

  • Mattress or box spring$40 each
  • Refrigerator or freezer$125 each
  • Smaller appliances$65 each
  • Tires, hazardous materialCase by case

That’s the whole rate sheet. No fuel surcharge, no stairs fee, and no reassessment where the number goes up once the trailer’s loaded. Tires and hazardous material are the only case-by-case items, because disposal fees on those genuinely vary.

Three steps

How it works.

  1. Step 1

    Tell us what's there

Call or text. Photos help more than a description does — especially for demo. You'll talk to Vince.

  2. Step 2

    We look at it

Anything structural gets walked in person before a number goes on it. Straight cleanouts we can usually price off photos.

  3. Step 3

    It comes out

We do the work and haul the debris off the same trip. You get the room back, swept.

Where we work

Sixteen towns.

Salt Lake County plus Park City — based in Sandy. If you're just outside one of these, call anyway — it's usually fine.

“Framing is how you learn what’s holding a house up.”

I spent 11 years in the Navy. When I got out I went into real estate, flipping houses, and I’ve been in the trades 27 years — general contractor, framer by trade. That’s the part that matters on a demo job.

Framing is how you learn what’s holding a house up. You spend enough years putting the structure in and you can walk a basement, look at which way the joists run, and know what’s carrying load before anybody cuts anything. That’s why I’ll take a wall other crews won’t — and why I can pull the permit for it.

I moved to Utah two years ago and started Black Diamond. Named it that because this is a skiing state and a black diamond means expert level. Demo and hauling were always part of the construction work anyway; I’m moving to it full time because it’s the part of the trade I want to be doing.

So I’m on every job. You’re not going to call and get a dispatcher and then meet three guys you’ve never spoken to.

Outside of work I’m training for my first bodybuilding contest in April 2027, which my back has opinions about.

“We’ll come get it that same day.”

Straight answers

Questions we get.

What does it cost?
Junk removal is priced by volume and the rates are published: $695 for a full trailer, $395 for a half. Mattresses are $40, fridges and freezers $125, smaller appliances $65. Demolition is quoted after Vince walks it, because the honest number depends on what's in the wall.
How soon can you get out here?
Same-day and next-day service, subject to the schedule — and you'll be told which one you're getting when you call rather than left to hope. Office hours are 7:30 to 6, Monday to Saturday. Demolition is the exception: that gets walked before it gets scheduled, because the quote depends on what's in the wall.
What won't you take?
Asbestos. Black Diamond isn't certified for it and won't guess at it — and in a county where a lot of the housing predates 1980, that comes up. Popcorn ceilings, old floor tile, pipe wrap. Get it tested before anyone opens a wall: if it's clean the job goes ahead, and if it isn't we wait for a certified abatement crew and pick up after them. Tires and hazardous material are priced case by case because disposal fees vary.
Do you take stuff to donation?
On a cleanout, yes — usable items get routed to donation rather than thrown in the trailer. There's no standalone donation-hauling service, though; you can't book a run to the donation centre by itself. And no donation receipts are issued, because what actually ends up donated isn't decided until the sort is finished, so there's nothing honest to put on a receipt beforehand. If you need the deduction, set those items aside before the job and take them yourself.
Where do you work?
Salt Lake County plus Park City — based in Sandy, working about 15 miles around it, and up Parley's for Park City. That's sixteen towns and they're all listed on the service area page. If you're just outside one of them, call anyway.
Who actually shows up?
Vince Scuncio, the owner. He quotes the job, pulls the permit, and is there while the work happens — you won't be handed to a dispatcher or meet a team that never spoke to you.
How does an estate sale work?
The way you'd expect, and it's a real one. Black Diamond does the sorting, the pricing, the staging, and the marketing, then holds the sale at the property. It's 40% of gross sales with a $5,000 retainer up front, credited against that commission rather than added to it — and refunded, or carried over to a cleanout, if the sale comes in under it. Whatever doesn't sell gets routed to donation or hauled, so there's no second company and no house still half full when the sale ends.
Will you take out a load-bearing wall?
Yes. That's the work most haulers and a lot of demo outfits turn down. Vince is a framer by trade and a licensed Utah general contractor, so the load gets carried while the wall comes out — temporary shoring goes in first, and it stays until whatever replaces it is in.
Do you pull the demolition permit?
Yes, and that's the part worth understanding. Salt Lake requires a permit for structural demolition, and only a licensed contractor can pull one. A junk removal company can't — so they either turn the job down or they do it without a permit, which becomes your problem when you sell the house and it shows up as unpermitted work. Black Diamond pulls it.
Are you insured and bonded?
Both. General liability at $2 million aggregate and $1 million per occurrence, plus a $55,000 bond. If you're an executor, a property manager, or an agent who has to hand a vendor's certificate to someone, those are the numbers you need.
